St. Luke Youth
“SLY”

St. Luke celebrates a comprehensive youth program for grades 9-12 that is called St. Luke Youth Program or SLY.  SLY is about having fun, making friends, learning about God, and living out our faith through service in our every day lives.  All are invited to come be a part of this transformational group who know how to love, care for each other, pray for life’s realities, and get dirty in service of God and neighbor.

Want a glimpse into SLY?

Every summer, a group of high school students and their adult leaders from St. Luke travel to somewhere in the United States for a service/mission trip.  In past years we have traveled to Las Vegas to address the needs of homelessness and hunger, to New Orleans to participate in the ELCA National Youth Gathering.  These have been tremendous and life changing experiences.

The high school leadership feels so strongly about the impact these experiences have on all of the participants – we have made it a top priority to include a yearly trip in the planning of each year’s youth program.   These trips provide a vital perspective for each participant that gets them out of the comfortable world in which they live where all of their needs are met.  They get to meet groups and individuals who have had their world turned upside down by circumstances or disaster.  They learn how they can make a difference in these situations – and their gift of time and service can be a part of the solution.
