October 2015 Update

To date, over $2 million has been pledged toward our goal of $2.3 million. Due to waiting upon the City of Portland for Building Permits, expansion construction will begin and will be completed in 2016.

June 2015 Update

Our exciting building upgrades and additions are underway!

As we successfully continue to raise funds, some major milestones have been achieved in the physical transformation of our buildings:

Stage 1A Construction Has Begun:

  1. Successful vacating of SW 46th & SW Florida—Completed
  2. Installation of new supply wiring and electrical panels—Completed
  3. Asbestos abatement in lower level (part of sprinkler installation)—Completed
  4. Installation of fire sprinkler system—Completed
  5. Installation of fire alarm system—In Process
  6. Conditional Use Review with City of Portland—In Process
  7. Groundbreaking Ceremony in anticipation of Stage 1B—June 14th
  8. Architectural Plans & Engineering (Storm Water Management, etc.)—Near Completion

Stage 1B Construction to follow:

  1. Construction of expanded Narthex, Vestibule & Covered Porch—Late Summer
  2. Construction of Stair Tower on back side of building to provide safe access to each level and to add additional square footage on all three levels—Late Summer
  3. Exterior site work, storm water system, paving, etc.—Late Summer

News from June 1, 2014 Congregational Meeting

Many thanks to the 78 St Luke members who came to hear an update from the Master Plan Implementation Team. Sixty-nine members voted to approve the resolution authorizing Council to negotiate with the City of Portland to trade certain portions of St. Luke property in return for vacation of the SW 46th Ave and SW Florida St rights-of-way that run through our property, if Council determines it to be in St. Luke’s best interest. This paves the way for a potential amended street vacation ordinance more favorable to St. Luke and the neighborhood to go before Portland City Council in the fall, and for us to submit our development plans for a conditional use review to City of Portland Bureaus by early November. Look for more details in the July Messenger.

December 2013 Update on Property Development

Your Master Plan Implementation Team has been busy with the many details required to move forward on Stage One improvements to our facilities.
Since our last report, we have:

►Met with City of Portland Departments for an Early Assistance Pre-application conference to get clarity on the requirements to complete the street vacating process and obtain the additional city approvals for our project. We should receive written responses to our questions by December.

►Begun work to select and hire a project architect for Stage One.

►Worked with Mark Dustan, Property Committee chair, to firm up plans and budget for kitchen and classroom improvements.

►Assigned Ron Hudson to explore the possibility of a Public Private Venture (PPV) to help fund HVAC improvements.

►Sent regular communications to our near neighbors, neighborhood associations, SWNI, and pedestrian interest groups to keep them updated on our plans.

►Attended the Maplewood Neighborhood Association Meeting to provide up-to-date information on this project and other St. Luke news.

►Received land survey report for the church property from Ferguson Land Surveying

If you have not already done so, please begin fulfilling your pledge to the Capital Fund. Nearly, $1.7 million has been pledged with over $388,000 already given. We are putting your money to work in implementing Stage One of the Master Plan. After several years of work, on October 17, 2012, the Property Development Steering Team unanimously approved a Master Plan for our property.  On October 21, 2012, the St. Luke Council also unanimously approved the Plan identified in exhibits A, B, and C of the Property Team proposal (see links below).

St. Luke Church ModelAfter a thoughtful and impassioned discussion, Council concluded that development of the church property according to this Master Plan would strengthen St. Luke ministries to the congregation and to the larger community.

At special Congregational Meetings on December 2nd and 9th St. Luke members approved two resolutions, one to approve the master plan (by 82%) and to create a dedicated Capital Campaign to fund the property expansion.
